The Theatre by the Lake in Keswick is something truly expectantly beautiful, tucked away by the shores of Derwent Water, just minutes’ walk from our bustling beautiful Lakeland market town centre. With stunning views across to Cat Bells, Maiden Moor and High Seat, one could be lost in romanticising of Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter with Peter Rabbit hopping around the Lingholm gardens. There is something for everyone throughout the seasons, with fantastic performances from talented actors, writers, and directors. With an enthusiastic and dedicated staff and their mantra of access for all being an absolute credit to the Theatre.
Due to the impact of the recent pandemic, all Theatres have had to take the unfortunate decision of having to cancel shows and whole seasons of performances, and the Theatre by the Lake here in Keswick is no exception. With the uncertain and challenging times it was with great relief that our amazing Theatre received some much-needed investment from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund and this will go some way in supporting the future of this little theatrical gem. As ambassadors of the Theatre we have been fortunate to be given the opportunity to be involved and we are very excited about its future and hugely impressed by all the staffs and volunteers’ efforts in concentrating on its reopening in the New Year. We understand plans are afoot to welcome everyone back to enjoy the new season and we are sure there will be opportunities for all the public to get involved and be able to offer their support.
We will soon be welcoming back once again the delights of events such as the Festival of Words and Ideas at the annual ‘Words by the Water’ the Keswick Jazz and Blues Festival, the Keswick Film Festival and Keswick Mountain Festival. The future is bright and in the words of the Theatre, it’s all about ‘The Drama of the Lakes’.
