COVID Policy

Here at Oakthwaite House as we hope you will agree, we have proudly provided a warm and welcoming family run traditional yet contemporary Lakes bed and breakfast experience, however we have all had a most exceptionally challenging period both emotionally and financially.

Our priority throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has always been to ensure the health and safety of our family, local community, and you as our valued guests by following all Government lock down procedures.

These priorities will always remain as we welcome you all back to Oakthwaite House and saying hello once again!

Part of the initial lockdown reopening preparation was to review the way we operated and although we hope to offer the same high-quality experience that all of guests have enjoyed over the years, for the short term, things did look a little different and will continue to do so as we help fight the pandemic.

Going forward, we will continue to prepare to ensure the safety of our family, of course you as our valued and loyal guests and to help the local community. You will continue to notice various hand sanitiser points throughout the establishment, and we encourage and direct all our guests to utilise them on entry into the establishment, when entering the dining room and equally whenever you feel the need.

Following on from recent guests welcomed laudatory comments to our successful, warm, and welcoming socially distanced breakfast, we have decided to maintain this as we look towards Easter and into the Summer with two sittings and pre-order to ensure that we can continue to provide the absolute best of local produce, selection and service to all whilst meeting all Government requirements.

If, however we are directed to close our dining room due to any Government regulations or guidelines, then in the short term as we are sure you would then agree, it will be the safest action to take. In closing our shared dining room space, we will then move to our adapted breakfast picnic style breakfast menu which can be collected at a designated pre-arranged time from ourselves for you to take-away on your daily adventure. From a pre-ordered choice which includes a dry cured bacon or Cumberland sausage lightly toasted oven bottom muffin to smoked salmon and cream cheese lightly toasted bagel.

In terms of your rooms we will be supplementing our usual high standards of cleanliness with extra deep cleaning and sanitisation procedures during the changeover of rooms. During your stay however, to minimise the frequency of staff entering your room for any stays of three nights or less, room servicing will not take place unless requested apart from emptying bins or replenishment of hospitality. For longer stays, rooms will be serviced every third day unless you request a more frequent clean (timings will be as per our T&Cs). You will notice that we will have removed all the top throws and extra cushions from our beds so all your bedding will have been professionally cleaned as per normal prior to your stay. Rebecca and I will be required to wear the correct PPE equipment and will be temperature checked before each shift. Regular daily cleaning will take place throughout the rest of the building.

All payments, deposits, and balances will now be taken online to avoid the use of a PDQ machine. A deposit payment will be taken at the time of booking with any balance taken from the card used to make the booking on the morning of your arrival. An email receipt will be sent to you confirming payment. Should you require to use a different card to the one made at the point of booking or to split a payment, please contact us the day before arrival and this can be done over the phone. If there is a need to use a PDQ machine it will be sanitised prior to and after every use.

After re-opening our usual terms and conditions will apply but with a couple of alterations. In the unlikely event that we must change or cancel your reservation, we reserve the right to do so. However, in the unlikely event that this may happen, you have the right to: accept the changed arrangements as notified; or make alternative arrangements with ourselves; or cancel your reservation and receive a full refund of any monies which you have paid to us in respect of your reservation (please note that we shall not be liable for any sums which you have paid to any other persons/parties in connection with your reservation).

For the avoidance of doubt, we shall have no further liability to you for any changes to or the cancellation of any online booking. We highly recommend you purchase travel insurance.

Rebecca and I want to offer you the confidence that our standards of hospitality & service will be as high as ever whilst putting in place the necessary procedures to open safely.

Everything we have adapted and put in place since the pandemic has prioritised the safety and wellbeing of our guests, and our family. We are confident that these changes will continue to help ensure we can reopen smoothly and more safely and hopefully have you all returning to the beautiful Lake District and its surrounding fells once more. If there is any part of our ‘new normal’ that you feel you need clarifying, or feel we could adapt, change or improve on, then please let us know directly – we are more than happy to receive and act on your feedback if it is deemed that this would benefit the majority of our guests.

We can’t wait to welcome you are valued guests back very soon – this has been an incredibly difficult time but we will meet it head on together and in time for you all to continue to create some wonderful memories in the Lake District in 2021.

With very best wishes as always,

Simon and Rebecca
