When it comes to outdoor pursuits, you can most definitely fulfil your dreams and your aspirations in one of the UK’s most beautiful natural landscapes, whether it be scaling the highest mountain in England – Scafell Pike and its surrounding fells, joining guided walks and experiencing them with likeminded individuals or even messing around on the water and enjoying the ‘Queen of the Lakes’ Derwent Water itself to name but a few amazing treats that are in store for you and your visit to Keswick.
Perhaps you would like to try out activities that you have always wanted to experience but never had the opportunity? Well, you could choose one of the Lake Districts many activity providers and seek their professional tuition as a beginner or honing your skills with more advanced skills so that you can enjoy and continue to enjoy all those activities in a safer environment.
How does a mountain adventure with a difference sound? Would you like one with a little bit of excitement, perhaps a little bit of history? Having experienced this myself I can honestly say that you cannot go far wrong pushing yourself in the Honister Pass! Get your heart racing with exhilarating climbs whilst following old miners’ footpaths around Fleetwith Pike. With amazing views across one of my favourite areas of the Lakes, Haystacks, Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater, the ‘Via Ferrata’ experience is an absolute must for all those seeking a one off fantastic adrenaline rush fun filled day out…..you could even try the extreme version…..if you can hold your nerve!
If you prefer outdoor pursuits that are a little more laid back but still induce some excitement, you can still enjoy it all at the Honister slate mine, from the Infinity Bridge to climbing in its mine you can even just do a tour in what I believe is England’s last working slate mine! An incredibly special day out for all the family and something to meet everyone’s budget.
Equally, there are plenty of providers to help you choose in your very own adventure covering outdoor pursuits from all types of water sports down at the Derwent Water Marina, Nichol End Marina or out towards Lodore and Platty+. Do you want to jump into rock pools and scramble near mini water falls then you could even try Ghyll scrambling and climbing with Keswick Adventures or Kong Adventure? Prefer something higher? Well, why not try climbing through trees or whistling through their treetops via ‘zip lines’ or racing around on the forest floor via ‘Segway’s’ then heading on out to ‘Go Ape’ in the beautiful Whinlatter forest will be just the ticket to take the whole family tribe to!
For those that fancy a more tranquil approach to the outdoors, then you could have a ‘wild’ day out at our very own Lake District Wildlife Park, the smaller tribe will love it and if I do say so myself, couples, and adults alike.
Have you ever wanted to walk with Alpacas or even trek with Llamas? You can now! Either at the Wildlife Park itself or across various sites in and around Keswick with a fantastic company called ‘alpacalyeverafter’. They have routes that range from gentle strolls that are suitable for all abilities that can be adapted for wheelchair users, to more moderate and harder walks around the Newlands Valley and Catbells; you can even help feed them and take as many selfies as you like! Why not look them up for further information and any advice you may like to ask for quite a unique and wonderful experience.
If Castles, Gardens and Museums are your thing then we have a plethora to choose from! Castle ruins, exhibitions, adventure playgrounds, beautiful gardens to stroll why not check out Lowther Castle we think you will be pleasantly surprised, something a little more local then we have Keswick Museum which exhibits aspects of the local landscape, history and culture and Greta Park with open spaces and a children’s playpark and towards Derwent Water we have Hope Park with its crazy golf and pitch and putt, interestingly this is actually an amateur sport developed in Ireland in 1929 and developed through the 1940s it even has two World governing bodies!
Why not round it all off with a trip to either the Lakes Distillery which is always worth a visit whilst indulging in a few of its samples our very own Keswick Brewing Company, a little diamond that conducts tours and has its own beer garden and shop at ‘The Fox Tap’ down brewery lane. No matter what your adventure may be or where it takes you, Keswick has something for everyone and we are sure you will agree with us, it is a perfect place to recharge one’s batteries and feel revitalised once more in the great outdoors, so why not join us whilst relaxing in comfortable surrounds and enjoying our complimentary freshly baked lemon drizzle cake and bubbles.
